Washington State University offers a dynamic Master of Arts in Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles.
The master's program provides students with opportunities to pursue research and/or design scholarship with emphasis on design, merchandising, or sociocultural and historical aspects of apparel and textiles.
Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles faculty mentor graduate students through the graduate study process from coursework to graduate scholarship activities. Graduate course work focuses on current knowledge and professional practice within the discipline. Apparel and textiles scholarship, businesses and industries benefit from multidisciplinary approaches.
Courses from the related disciplines of Business and Fine Arts expand product design process and consumer coursework available in the major. Other disciplines (i.e., Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Women's Studies, and Engineering) provide options for augmenting theory, skills, and methodologies.
Faculty from other disciplines augment content and methodologies, and may also act as mentors or serve on graduate committees. While adding multidisciplinary expertise and understanding, the program deepens disciplinary knowledge.
Graduates compete in a dynamic and expanding marketplace. Because Washington is third in the nation in apparel and textile industry productivity, there is considerable opportunity for industry-related scholarship and career development. The learning experiences gained from this multidisciplinary context provide a depth of background supportive to positioning Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textile graduates competitively in this dynamic and expanding marketplace.
