Position:
Duties include establishing a program of research by conducting independent research leading to publication; grants writing leading to internal and external funding; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in International issues (i.e. trade, SCM, import or export) in apparel/textiles, apparel/textile quality and textiles; mentoring students; contributing to curriculum and course development; directing graduate students in research; and engaging in collegial intellectual interaction with other departmental and university faculty. In addition, the occupant of the position will be expected to contribute to University and Departmental governance through service on appropriate committees, and to serve the university, professional, state, and national communities in ways appropriate to their training and rank.
Context:
The Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design, and Textiles is located within the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences. The department offers a B.A. and M.A. and is a participant in the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program. Majors select either Apparel Design or Merchandising Options. The department works with the Advisory Board whose members include representatives from the Fashion Group International, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Nike, and Eddie Bauer. Departmental resources include labs for computers, textiles and apparel design, and the historic costume collection. The Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles department has experienced strong growth over the past five years.
Responsibilities:
- Successful candidate will be expected to teach International issues (i.e. trade, SCM, import or export) in apparel/textiles, apparel/textile quality and textiles
- Produce a program of scholarly work.
- Advise graduate and undergraduate students; mentor student activities and organizations.
- Establish positive working relationships with faculty, students, staff, and professionals.
- Actively participate in professional and academic organizations.
- Provide service to the department, college, university, and community.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned Ph.D. by 01/01/2009 in Merchandising, Apparel/Textiles, or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to teach in the following content areas: International issues (i.e. trade, SCM, import or export) in apparel/textiles, apparel/textile quality and textiles
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated understanding of industry.
- Scholarly activities as evidenced by research output.
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships and to contribute to team endeavors.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats.
- Record of active participation in professional or academic organizations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies in a global environment.
